Trail, S.W. Military Drive at Roosevelt, 1946-1984:
No trace remains that we could find. I remember the look of the theater but cannot remember if it is under the Wal-Mart or was on the other side of Roosevelt.
1031 S.E. Military and Roosevelt--I too was told a Wal-Mart there now. (Debbie Perry April 2001)
This ad appeared in the San Antonio Light on Thursday 27 June 1946.
That would make this the 4th drive in to open in San Antonio and the 3rd to open in
a 3 month period. This may be the most new theaters to open in such a short period
in the history of our city. Note the statement that they have "In-Car
Speakers". Prior to this the speakers where located in the ground as described
in the article on the Fredericksburg drive in. From what I've been told the drawing of the
screen tower is pretty accurate but as of yet I have been unable to confirm this. The ad
also confirms the address as being "On The Military Highway at Roosevelt"
This is area as
it appeared in 1995. The large building in the lower middle of the photo is a
Walmart. The Walmart and it's parking lot fill one half of the old Trail Drive-In
theater. The open lot to the right in the picture is the rest of the Trail. We
may go back one day with a metal detector and see what we can locate but we are pretty
sure there isn't much left.
