14 August 2004 - Terry Moore

On Saturday, 14 August 2004, I returned the Crossroads!

One of the least appreciated aspects of the drive-in experience is that drive-in patrons are often exposed to films they would not ordinarily choose to see. In this case, I never expected to see "A Cinderella Story"!

As I mentioned in my 5 July 2003 report, there is now a sheet metal fence surrounding part of the Crossroads. Here is yet another view of that fence. If you look closely, you can see parts of the buildings that have been constructed on the opposite side of Highway 90 behind the scren.

In my 16 August 2003 report, I passed on Steve Rodman's plans to build a new ticket booth. Those plans have become a reality! Here is a image of the new ticket booth. Although it hasn't been completed yet, it has already entered service.

If you look closely, you can see a ladder through the ticket booth window!

This ticket both was designed to support the over-sized vehicles so common on the roads today.

As you've seen earlier in this report, the theater marquee is used to advertise the movies showing at the Crossroads as well as the start time for the first feature.

The ticket booth marquee is used to advertise the prices for adults and children. I'd suggest adding the radio frequency to this sign. There is plenty of room for it in the bottom left corner of the marquee.

Here is an updated view of the screen from inside the lot.

Beneath the screen is a shelter for a large lawn mower and other equipment. This shelter was still under construction when I took my last pictures at the Crossroads. Here is yet another suggestion. Consider painting the shelter a flat black to minimize any light reflections off the shelter and onto the screen.

Sadly, Steve Rodman had taken the night off. Visiting with him is always the high point of any trip to the Crossroads!

The substitute projectionist had difficulty framing the picture at the start of the film. Even so, the image quality was excellent. The focus was crystal clear and the picture was extremely bright.

For those who are interested in my eating habits, I had a large drink, a large popcorn and a pizza.

How was "A Cinderella Story"? It was okay and I now understand the basic appeal of Hilary Duff.

Driving home through the late night fog, I was already planning my next visit to the Crossroads!
